Alongside vehicle interiors, our workshop manufactures canvas canopies and seating for game viewer vehicles. It is work that sits somewhere between upholstery and fabrication, and it is a good deal more specialised than re-covering a seat.
Canvas canopies made to fit
A canopy that was made for your vehicle behaves differently to one bought off a shelf and adapted. It sits properly on the rails, the tension is even, and water runs off it instead of pooling in a slack section and finding its way through the stitching.
We build to the vehicle rather than to a generic pattern, which matters most on older bakkies and on vehicles that have already been modified. If your load bin has had a roll bar, a rack or a toolbox added, a made to measure canopy is usually the only thing that will fit cleanly.
Game viewer and safari vehicle seating
Game viewer seating has a harder life than almost anything else we make. It is open to the weather permanently, it carries passengers over rough ground all day, and it has to look presentable to paying guests at the same time.
That combination drives every material decision:
- Marine grade vinyl throughout, because the seating never comes indoors and standard automotive material will not survive the UV.
- High density foam, which keeps its shape under constant vibration instead of flattening into the base.
- Reinforced stitching at the stress points, since seams fail long before panels do on vehicles that flex over uneven ground.
- Drainage, so that rain runs out of the seat rather than sitting in the foam.
Tiered bench seating, grab rails and rifle scabbards are all things we have built into game viewer bodies. If you are converting a vehicle, it is worth talking to us before the body is finished rather than after.
Bakkie canopies and caravan mattresses
The same workshop makes caravan and camper mattresses to measure, which is more useful than it sounds. Caravan bunks are rarely a standard size, and the gap between a mattress that nearly fits and one that actually fits is the difference between sleeping well and not.
